BRITISH MAGICIAN WINS MAJOR INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION IN AMERICA

Award winning Nottingham based magician Marc Oberon, has won a major international competition in America, beating strong opposition from all over the world.

The competition, which had two categories: stage and close up, was the culmination of a prestigious seven day magicians’ convention organised by the International Brotherhood of Magicians and Society of American Magicians in Kentucky – The IBM/SAM Convention.   Marc was in the close up category.

To take part in the competition entrants were required to submit a DVD of their act and 24 were then shortlisted to attend the event and perform in front of a panel of six judges and an audience of 2,000 fellow magicians.  Six finalists were then chosen and asked to perform again with the ultimate winner being chosen by the audience.   They voted unanimously in favour of Marc who took the title and was presented with the People’s Trophy.

“All of the acts were of an extremely high standard so there was some strong opposition,” said Marc.  “When they announced that I had won I just couldn’t believe it.  Needless to say I am delighted to have taken part in a competition at such a prestigious event and also to have been chosen as the winner by my fellow magicians. It is an achievement that I am extremely proud of and one of the highlights of my career.”

Alan Shaxon, President of the Magic Circle in UK said: “Marc was in brilliant form and we were all thrilled at his success in such a high calibre event. He will be in great demand now on the international magic circuit, and deserves the reward for all the years he has devoted to perfecting his unique act.”

Marc is also a past winner of the European Close Up Championships, the Macmillan International Award and British Ring of the International Brotherhood of Magicians. He has also been invited to attend the World Championships in Beijing in 2009.
